How to cut out one face and put onto another photo?

How do I take my son's image from a photo and place it on top of a photo of an astronaut? I'm trying to make my son look like the astronaut?

Typically I'll use the lasso tool and go around the head.  Then paste that on a layer above the face you want to replace.  This allows you to resize the head a bit, and align it (rotate if necessary).  Then grab the eraser and use a brush with a soft edge and go to work (easiest when you zoom in all the way on the image).

Billieo; Yes, you can use the GIMP, which is a free multi-platform image editor.
Get it here: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
