What is the time difference between exposures? This is a great and creative idea. Any suggestions on replicating this idea? thanks felix

I believe they were taken within a two hour window. One photo every 20 minutes or so. They were connected later using a computer as far as I can tell :-)

Aha, another great one from Sam Javanrouh. His is one of my favourite photoblogs.
from the ddoi blog page wrote: 6 photos shot in about a two hour time frame. and this 6 photos were selected from a few hundred photos I shot in this session using pclix which is an intervelometer device. I'd quite like to get my hands on a pclix. I currently have to use a laptop for timelapse work.

Are there any other devices like this?

yup, both Canon and Nikon make similar units. I'll probably end up getting the Canon one rather than the Pclix, but the last time I had a mad rush on timelapse, everyone was out of stock.

Any idea what the unit name(s) are?

The Canon one is the TC-80N3, and the Nikon is the MC-36

Depends whether you can use a soldering iron I've modded my normal wired remote to work with either my 300D or my 30D. The 300D has the same remote connector as the XTi. It's a pretty simple proceedure, and only takes a few minutes. If you want the details for rewiring these things, let me know.

It's a longish story, with a slightly odd reason. I work for a university, and fairly often get called upon to shoot things very accurately. On this occasion, I was asked to shoot something a few thousand times from precisely the same place. My first reaction was to sling the camera on a tripod and hook it up to a laptop with a long USB cable. This didn't work, because the Psychologist who asked for the work wanted to fire the camera himself, from the other side of the set. I dug around for a bit and found a garage door remote, which I could interface into the camera. I put a 3.5mm stereo socket on the receiver, and cut my RS-80N3 cable release in half, and put a plug on the camera side, and a socket on the button side. This means I still have a working cable release, as well as a radio controlled release. I decided while I was at it, I might as well make a cable for the 300D too. This is simply a 2.5mm jack plug, a bit of cable, and a 3.5mm jack plug. When I get round to getting a TC80N3, I'll give that the same treatment.
So, the treatment: Get the Canon remote, and cut the cable about 6" from the button/controller end. I suggest it's cut it here so you still have plenty of wire on the N3 plug end - you might need the N3 connector in the future, and they are the epitome of "non standard" - you can't buy the plugs unless you buy the whole remote.
Get the following from an electronics supplier: 1x 3.5mm stereo socket 1x 3.5mm stereo plug 1x 2.5mm stereo plug (for the camera) some fairly light 3 core wire (audio cable is pretty good - look for 2 core + screen stuff)
The pinout is here:

You will wire the whole thing up as follows:

Here's my remotes:

This is what you should end up with:
(Click for a slightly bigger version) Only you would have a TC-80 in place of the RS-80 shown here. The orange cable in the pic is general purpose 2+screen audio cable.
Give me a shout if you have any trouble or if I've not explained anything clearly

Cool! Have fun, and let us know what it's like. If I only used one camera, I'd probably be tempted... as it is I think I'll go down the TC-80 route.
