Happy Thanksgiving
I know it's only a holiday in the US, but being thankful is good for everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Do you have photos of the day or of preparations?
My daughter baked this pie at our homeschool co-op the other day:

Last year my sister made a turkey pinata, and after we finished with it, we took turns wearing it on our heads. Here's my husband, the turkey:

Happy Thanksgiving to all my PJJ friends!
Here's a dreadful photo from last year of one of our most treasured family traditions:

And here's another tradition for one of my sisters and me (everyone one else is on the other side of the Chesepeake Bay bridge) on Thanksgiving Day:
which reminds me I really should get going...

The last of the roses in the garden were frostbitten and the autumn leaves had fallen, so my sister cut some varigated ivy vines to decorate the center of the table. When we removed the vines to make room for the turkey and all the trimmings, the kids decided to turn the vines into crowns. So I guess you can find something exotic to photograph on Long Island...like a bunch of kids who look like they stepped out of a "Midsummer Night's Dream." They even named themselves Nature's Earth, Fire, Wind & Water...and of course Val decided he was that force of nature, Electricity!

Very nice.
So much more polished than my 2-year-old nephew running around with his too-big jeans falling down around his ankles which he thought was HILARIOUS. (As did I.)
(the whole family is a bit eccentric, I'm afraid.)

It all sounds like great fun! Thursday was my birthday and my dh had to work, but the weather was great (sunshine at last) so I took a few photos of the fall foilage. I especially love the colors in this one:
My stepdaughter made me a delicious triple chocolate layer cake with at least 1/2" of buttery chocolate frosting -- yummm -- and since it was my 50th, I drank a bottle of champagne!
Friday night we went downtown to see the lights and decorations on the riverfront and to practice photographing the christmas lights at night -- this one is no technical victory, but I like the impressionist feeling to it:

Saturday night we went to Airlie Gardens for Enchanted Airlie Garden Tour and more night and light photos:

We just happened to be in the right place at the right time on Bradley Creek to see the fireworks show at the end of the Wrightsville Beach Christmas flotilla:

My son and his family, back from their holiday camping trip, came by on Sunday afternoon with a yellow rose, new slippers and new socks (my son and I share a fetish for brand new socks! They never feel as good as the very first time you put them on!) for my birthday and I cooked the Thanksgiving turkey and traditional fixin's, finally.

Happy birthday, Nanavsanderson! That's a tasty looking turkey. This is another traditional Thanksgiving photo of going overboard. With all the homemade desserts on the table, my grandnephew Val decided that icecream was needed on everything!

Karol....it was just a couple of Thanksgivings ago that there were as many kids eating under the table as there were sitting at the table!

Happy birthday, Nanavsanderson! I took a few photos but they didn't come out the way I thought they would, plus our table is no where as elegant as Belle's. So I'll just post a 3 shot pano of how our Thanksgiving day looked from the hill behind the town. After weeks of overcast skies, snow, blowing snow and a few blizzards the weather has finally cleared up for us on Thanksgiving day. Are you all ready for winter? I'm not but since it's already here, what choice do I have?

Happy birthday Nana! How nice to have fireworks just for your birthday!
Karol -- my photos are mostly of my cousins' kids touching their toes -- from behind!
Belle, the vines are beautiful. I have a photo something like that of one of my daughters. I love it.
Rollsup -- wow. That is really spectacular.

Superd - LOL
RollsUP - your photo is really beautiful and cold and amazing. And flat. It's so very flat. And snowy. And brrrrrrrrrr. Great photograph.
There have been little kids in the family for quite some time now, so we gave up on elegance for practical reasons (that and, well, we're just a way casual bunch.) My very favorite memory is when my nephew Nathan was around 1. He, my sister's dog and I entertained ourselves by chasing eachother through the dining room, kitchen, hallway and back around again: dog, 1-year old, then bringing up the rear, the 42-year old (who, incidentally, was making the most noise.) I'm so proud.

This bird was raised from a chick on Dart Creek Farm where he lived 'til a week before the holiday. Everyone in the family had a part of raising, caring for, and, finally, the butchering, dressing and preparing. About 25 pounds of finished bird was scrumptious and satisfying! Having a look at these makes me jealous. Maybe us Brits can campain for some sort of thanksgiving. Obviously we have no right to celebrate the history but the sentiment can be shared.

Wheesterface....feel free to adopt the Thanksgiving feast tradition...I think we got it from the Native Americans and we Yanks have no hesitation in making Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Christmas goose part of our holiday.
I'll pass the compliments about the elegant table setting on to my sister. She's the one with the dining room, decorated mostly with her garage sale finds. I had a dining table in a corner of my living room...it's now covered with computer equipment, a printer, and piles of paper & stuff.
Tufteach...your collage of the preparation & fixin's gave me an idea for next year's dinner, but I think I'd have trouble eating a bird I'd gotten to know personally.
