Camera Finds at Goodwill

I take a look through shopgoodwill.com once or twice a month.
I'm usually looking for slide projectors but occasionally I'll stray around to look through the cameras.
Like any thrift store you have to sift through a bunch of junk to find something interesting.
Like any thrift store, the items are sold ASIS, and here there is the added layer that you're buying at a distance.

Anyone interested in a Crown Graphic 4x5?

How about a medium-format Bronica ETR that comes with a snazzy leather camera bag?

How about a Yashica Mat 124?

A Mamiyaflex-C?

How about a slightly broken Mamiya 645 kit in a box?

Of course Caveat Emptor, there is less warranty than random dude on Ebay.

I'll have to keep my eye open for a medium format camera since my Belair doesn't seem to be all that - and I do kind of want to shoot in that format from time to time.

I want that yashica-mat, but I don't have the budget for one right now.

I've found the occasional good deal on etsy.com, too. I bought my polaroid sx-70 there.

I've looked at some auctions on shopgoodwill.com occasionally but have never bought anything. I love going to an actual Goodwill store just about every other Saturday (on half-off days). I rarely go on non-half-off Saturdays but one time when I did I found a Pentax ME Super with a nice-looking 50mm f/1.4 lens for only $15! It wouldn't have lasted another week so I paid the full price. Turns out the body has focusing issues (apparently somebody cleaned the focusing screen and/or the mirror and put it out of alignment) but the lens works great on my other Pentax ME (non-Super) body!

I guess the moral of my story is that you can sometimes find good deals at a real Goodwill store too.

How about an Nikon 50mm 1.8D AF with an F100 thrown in for good measure?
http://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.as … D=12522567

(I might have to throw some money at this one, turns out I'd like to have a second, fully automatic film camera that I can pass around the office)

A little spendy to buy as-is, but maybe a Nikon S3?

Or maybe a Yashica Electro if you'd still like go rangefinder?

Well, I'd be interested in the F100, but it's already at $99 with six days to go so I expect it will go up at least another hundred, and it hasn't been fully tested (was tested with batteries, not with film).

That is my experience with that site. Nothing is fully tested, and almost anything that interests me ends up going for typical used camera prices. I can go to keh.com, spend slightly more, and get a camera that is guaranteed to work, from a company with great customer service and a return policy.

BTW, I have a Yashica Electro 35. It's a nice little camera. I still haven't developed film from it though.

These posts do require a little background. Do not buy these things! Ebay is a much, much better place to buy. A good number of the cameras in this search alone come from a store or seller that has a warranty and return policy.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= … ;_from=R40

Shopgoodwill is amusing becase the search result sets are so small.
Unfortunately there is just too much traffic for these things to stay priced in line with what the stores can deliver (i.e. as-is, no warranty). Well... the Crown Graphic in the first post might have been a good buy.

It's a lark, let the buyer beware.
