Those kestrel in flight shots are great, Don! And, thanks, Tufteach, that's interesting!

I accidentally spilled a bunch of feed as I walked out the French doors. This gave me the opportunity to get some close ups of the feeding birds (through the dirty glass). The golden crowned Sparrows cooperated, but the hyper-busy Juncos were blurs! Best viewed large.

I'm not sure what these are. Muscovy, perhaps? This family of four are new to the park. Probably dumped by someone who did not want them anymore and thinking they could survive on their own. Maybe, maybe not. The were very friendly and hungry. If you look closely You can tell they have at least been grazing on the grass. I shared my apple and granola bar with them. One of them appears to have an injured wing and another is limping.

Awww, poor little critters. People are despicable to dump animals. I hope they are able to survive there. They're terribly cute.

i have been wanting to get a shot of one of these guys for a long time, but could never get close enough or they flew off before I could get a shot. So, yesterday I slapped some peanut butter and meal worms on top of a post outside my French Doors, washed the window, set up my camera and waited, and waited...The crows didn't come close! Very early this foggy morning I glanced out---there they were! My camera was still set up, but put aside plus I didn't have my glasses on. Afraid I would miss the chance, I moved the camera back into position and just started shooting. Glad I did, because moments later, they moved on. This was the best shot--fog and blurry eyes considered! I may have over-sharpened it a bit in post processing,

A pair of flickers have become daily visitors. I was lucky enough to have my camera in my hands and standing inside the window when this guy stopped by to peck at this woodpecker feeder.

Where have all the birds gone? Migrating, perhaps? Until a few days ago my bird feeders had constant visitors--junkos, finches, sparrows. starlings, flickers, blackbirds--and crows and robins nearby. Suddenly there are none to a very few. Maybe, you know. Ajax? Anybody?

Same thing here tufteach...As we move closer to spring, you get movement and as natural food becomes more available they don't frequent the feeders as much as when its very cold....But it can vary a lot day to day. Now is a good time however to keep an eye open for birds you might not have seen... I love migration time because as some move out, others move in..I notice a lot more robins right now, so we should be seeing varied thrushes any time...And when we get even closer to spring, watch and listen for migrating warblers...They show up when the trees start budding.
