Backup folders and sub folders

I have a habit of organizing photos in folders. i.e. i create month wise folders that contain sub-folders with the event name. For example main folder "Jan 2013" sub folder " our 1st get together " etc.

It there a tool or a desktop application that auto-include sub-folders while uploading them to an online account or while taking a backup?

I am confused. A regular copying over of files will keep subfolders. I think it depends more on your backup program and on your online account program.
